Look the Part! Get the Job!
Practice makes perfect- even when it comes to beauty, professionalism and nailing the job!
From the hundreds of entries Transition! Hawaii received at the Leeward Job Fair and CTSO Convention Career Fair (thanks for stopping by our booth), we drew 20 winners to receive a Transition! Career Makeover.
The prize package included:
- A career-focused beauty consultation at the Paul Brown Institute. Attendees were given a lesson on everything they need to know to look their best for that big job interview-hairstyling, skin care, make-up, dressing for success and more!
- A career-preparation session by Remedy Intelligent Staffing. The hiring experts explained that what you say and how you act at a job interview determines whether you get the job.
Some Tips:
- Practice a Q&A. Rehearse answers to typical interview questions. Prepare actual examples you can use to describe your skills, providing evidence of your success.
- Know your audience. Note the interviewer's name and use it during the job interview.
- Look the part. Make sure your attire is neat and appropriate. Bring a nice portfolio with copies of your résumé.
- Be on time for the interview. On time means five to ten minutes early. Drive to the office ahead of time so you know exactly where it is and how long it takes to get there.
- Stay calm. Take a moment to regroup and take deep breaths before you enter the interviewer's office. During the meeting, relax and maintain eye contact with the interviewer.
- Show what you know. When discussing your career accomplishments match them to what the company is looking for.
- Follow up. Always follow-up with a thank you note reiterating your interest in the position. If you interview with multiple people send each one a thank you note.
