Putting You To The Test: The SAT&ACT By: Jeffery GuillermoThe SAT Reasoning Test and the ACT are two standardized tests for college admissions.
Standardized testing is intended to supplement your high school record (course work, grades and extracurricular activities).
SAT consists of three major sections: critical reading, mathematics and writing. Each section receives a score on the scale of 200–800. Total scores are calculated by adding up scores of the three sections. There are 10 sub-sections, including an additional 25-minute experimental section that may be in any of the three major sections.
The test adds up to 3 hours and 45 minutes of actual timed sections.
Some students who perform poorly on the SAT find that they perform better on the ACT and vice versa. The ACT test consists of four sections: English, math, reading, science. An optional writing test was recently added.
All four-year colleges and universities accept the ACT, but each institution has a preference.
