As one of Kaiser High School's 15 valedictorians, it came as no surprise to see Eldon Llarenas at the annual academic award ceremony. But what he was honored with prompted a chorus of "oohs" and "aahs" from the audience.
Squinting at the program, Lt. Col. Stanford Ching announced to the crowd that Llarenas would receive "much, much more" than the $40,000 scholarship already listed. His inception into the Air Force Academy came not only with full tuition, but with books, room and board, clothes, and healthcare.
